The modern era of shining iPhone screens, zero hour contracts, the threat of nuclear armageddon and continued global poverty can challenge your personal resilience. But you can turn this around by turning to nature and rekindle the art of imagination, dreams to restore your strength and vitality
One of the themes that emerges from my international clients is that people feel increasingly depleted by everyday life and work, and it’s getting worse.
Compare the pressures you face in a typical week with a few years ago: have they increased? Now think about the years ahead: are the pressures likely to keep growing? If you’re answering 'yes', this could be a good time to review and renew your strategies for resilience.
I've spent my life exploring how people can raise their wellbeing and resilience through contact with nature.
To help this, I've travelled with groups to Nepal's Himalayas, to the Everest region and the Sir Edmund Hillary National Park, a conservation area, at nearly 3,000 meters above sea level. I've been running a range of events for individuals and work groups exploring resilience and natural happiness.
Time in Nature
A book published in 2012 by two doctors from Harvard Medical School quotes many research studies showing how long hours in front of screens put people in a continual state of alert, which makes it hard for them both to concentrate, and also to relax.
The book, "Your Brain on Nature," also provides plenty of evidence that time in Nature is one of the best antidotes to losing that precious enjoyment and resilience needed for a good quality of life.”
My programmes offer a range of ways to learn from Nature. An important part of most of these events is some solo time out amongst the trees, on a mountain path or by an ocean or lake, giving people a chance to relax, and open to fresh insights about the issues that they’re facing.
Nutrition for future growth
Alongside this, I created a model, the Back on Track Program, which shows how people can learn from the resilience of natural ecosystems, lead better, feel better and do better simply by alignment with natural process. The Universal Laws of Nature.
Many people feel helpless about problems, and simply stuff their worries down. “I find that these deep, denied worries affect a lot of people, and sap their energy and resilience. I offer a range of processes, such as discard, VIP and Innerwealth using deep ecology, to help people face these anxieties, and find a more positive outlook.”
Daring to dream
One of my inspirations in this area is the experience that the way to positive change for the state of our world begins with visions, imaginations and dreams. Dreams, in the sense of inspiring visions, and myths, in the sense of prevailing beliefs, have a huge influence in our world.
I'm optimistic about the future, because I believe that the wisdom of planet earth, can team up with the inventiveness of humans, to find solutions even to the current threats.
You could look at it as a chance for humans to grow dramatically in resilience, and in their connection with Nature. We have to dare to dream: if we can at least carry a vision of the future we hope for, it starts to gather momentum.”
I provide organic growth approaches for people and their work that help to build resilience. This is backed by many years’ experience of working with mindfulness, deep ecology and other approaches to wellbeing, and is part of the natural advantage.

Change the Environment - Change the Person
You want to change anything, change the environment. Whether it's the furniture of your office, the brand logo or your entire home, change begins with environment. I have helped people change for 35 years and I have witnessed first hand how, if environment at home or at work does not change, people do not change. I've see great shifts in people as a result of small environmental adjustments. During your 30 days you'll explore the following environmental opportunities.
- Office
- Clothing
- Home
- Computer
- Nature
- Attitude
- Social Life
The key here is to witness the benefit of appearances. The great statement of ones personal self worth is the environment we create around ourselves. This drills down to self respect, cleanliness, organisation, filing, decorations and more. Dirty environments often surround low socio economic groups who really, have all the time in the world to clean. Lowered self respect reveals itself in our clothing, shoes, cleanliness. This is the first and foremost tell tale of an evidenced change.
There are great masters such as Emerson, Plato and many Asian Masters (Lao Tzu) who are convinced that if mankind lived life according to the principles of nature, then we would be at peace with ourselves and with each other. It’s a philosophy not uncommon in the ways of the East but has yet to be fully grasped by the western world. We are hoping this modern way of presenting this ancient theme will resonate with you, irrespective of your cultural or religious background.
What to do about it.
1. Re-invent yourself - Wear what you want to become. Start by a clean up (see video Clear out all your clothing) let go of all that is a memory or relic of yesteryear that you think "I paid good money for that" or "one day, when I go camping, I will use that" - including shoes, suits, bags and jewellery. Give it to the brotherhood, or Vinnies but don't store it. Let it go, now.
Ps Don't replace anything until the end of your 30 days and then I will help you with a branding person to choose the best, low cost, super quality items for your new brand.
2. Look at your office - What does it say to your heart and mind? Can you make it more "friendly to your good side?" organised, balanced, harmonious, green and give you some glimpses of nature, even a screen saver of nature is shown to help.
3. Walking meditation - life is the only meditation you will need. I will show you WALKATATION (don't sit to meditate you already spend too much time on your butt), walk. Take yourself to your happy place in nature, the opportunity once at least during your working day. Walkatate. I can show you how.
4. Do your morning WALKACHI... Connect with nature in prayer and gratitude before sunrise. This is called Walkachi, doing your vision, inspiration and purpose in nature - walker style and it's a great way to become fully inspired before work. Remember you can't give what you haven't got. Turning up as nature intended.
5. Look at your home and the story it tells a visitor. Does it say "this is a home for a family or a sport club or is it a home for love or fun or both. Check the art. Sometimes we outgrow our decoration and don't remodel for the future.
6. Look at your hard drive. Is it a mess? Are your photos organised? Is your phone backed up? Is your kitchen a 10 year accumulation of misplaced plates. Maybe time to evolve your kitchen.
