BREATH CONTROLS MIND - MIND CONTROLS BREATH
Step 1. Learn how to breathe properly

Breathe in to the count of 5, out to the count of 5.
Breathe in to the count of 6, out to the count of 6.
Breath in to the count of 7, out to the count of 7.
Breathe in to the count of 8, hold it for the count of 3, out for the count of 8.
When you go into shock - a mental state, your breathing changes. When you go into fear your breathing changes. So too, when you go into inspiration and love, your breathing changes. You can reverse this. You can change your breathing to create a certain mind state.
All ancient teachings focussed on the breath. Pranayama is the yogi science of breathing. Pranayama is the fourth level of yoga. It is written this way because if you do deep breathing without the first three layers, you will bring in too much energy and your nervous system will not handle it. Just like if you put too much electricity in a cable.
So you need to be mindful about over doing the pranayama practice. A good sporting life will teach you pranayama in line with nervous system strength. So, the morning burst training is perfect breathing training too. I don't normally recommend separate breathing training unless you are good at sport and are fit. If you do pranayama too much you will negatively affect your body and mind. Many people have become ill from the western approach to teaching pranayama to beginners at yoga. This is not wise to do.
There is an APP and this app shows pranayama. I like this APP because it is a very gentle introduction to PRANAYAMA and 10 minutes at a time might be ok as long as you are physically and emotionally fit. If you are not emotionally fit, don't try it because it will make your emotions more powerful and ruin your nerves.

PranayamaThis video is awesome. Learning to breathe might sound crazy but our mind does dictate our breathing. Remember the last time you felt depressed? You breathed out longer than you breathed in. almost sighing. This is natural. And when you were elated, excited even shocked. You breathed in longer than you breathed out, almost panting. There is an APP for your iPhone at this link. I recommend the free version to start but the paid version is great too.

ApplicationDuring your working day your breathing changes to suit your mind. Imagine the opposite can happen too. Your breathing can change your mind. So by practicing pranayama as listed in the above video you will find yourself in a very balanced, inspired and beautiful place. This is spirituality in reality, life meditation, mindfulness in action. It is very simple but often hard to remember.
