There are two sides to everything:
Elation breeds depression. So, we do not want to become elated, positive about things. But in another sense we must think positive. So, the idea is to see the positive and the negative but to focus on the positive.
An egg breaks, you see the negative of mess and waste, but did you see the positive side? That egg might have slowed you down and made you think, maybe could have saved you getting burnt from lack of concentration. Focus on that.
You must think. You can't not think. So, whether we see the positive or negative is our choice, the only choice really.
Gratitude ultimately is positive thinking about the positive and the negative.
