Being clear about your goals means being precise and that means refining them with a SMART test.

Your goals should be clearly defined, with a specific outcome. For example: ‘A top result in a big event’ isn’t specific. ‘Earning $200,000 in the next 12 months while working less than 200 days’ - that’s specific. You need to have the three elements of BE, DO, HAVE written into your goals - but more about that later. For now, be specific.

Making a goal measurable helps you know how far you’ve come and how much further you have to go. Just saying ‘A good salary’ doesn’t cut it. Better is ‘Finishing in the top 5%’ or ‘$200,000 +/- 10%.’

As an Evolutionary, you can surely do things that mere mortals can only dream of. But a touch of realism about your goals is important. It should be something that while seemingly impossible today, you can just about make happen in the future with a lot of hard work and dedication.

Are the goals you care abut? Are they ones you think you should have or are they what others want for you? To be effective, your goals have to be yours alone .. one you want so badly you’re willing to put in the time and effort to make them happen.

Every day you suffer is one day closer to the summit. Set concrete deadlines for each of the goals you’ve written down. With those dates, you can’t develop an effective plan for success.
